Glycol Chilling System for Dairy Processing Plant
Industry: Food Processing
Project Challenge
The client needed to rapidly cool pasteurized milk from 75°C down to 4°C. The challenge was to provide a consistent and reliable source of chilled glycol for their plate heat exchangers, while also providing cooling for their aging tanks and finished product cold rooms.
Solution Provided
We installed a centralized glycol chilling system featuring a high-efficiency water-cooled screw chiller. The system was designed with a primary and secondary loop to provide different temperature glycol streams to various points of use. This approach optimized energy use by not over-chilling glycol where it wasn't necessary. All food-grade piping and heat exchangers were used.
Project Results
The new system provides precise and stable cooling, reducing the milk cooling time by 20%. The centralized design is 15% more energy-efficient than their previous setup of multiple, smaller direct expansion units. The client reported improved consistency in their final product quality.
