Supermarket Refrigeration System Eco-Friendly Retrofit

Project Challenge

An existing supermarket was facing high electricity bills and upcoming regulations phasing out their old R22 refrigerant. They needed a complete system retrofit that would be energy-efficient, use a future-proof, environmentally friendly refrigerant, and be installed with minimal disruption to store operations.

Solution Provided

We replaced their outdated system with a centralized CO2 transcritical booster system. This eco-friendly solution uses natural refrigerant CO2 (R744) with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 1. All refrigerated display cases and walk-in coolers were replaced with modern, high-efficiency models. The installation was performed overnight in phases to allow the store to remain open during the day.

Project Results

The supermarket's refrigeration energy consumption was reduced by over 30%. The new system is fully compliant with all current and anticipated environmental regulations. The precise temperature control of the new display cases also led to a reduction in product shrinkage.
